Thank You for All the Hats!!
What an amazing to The Hats for Hope Challenge — nearly 500 hats of all shapes and sizes.
What a challenge to hang them. Many people sent more than one hat, and 200 of them are on display. The Clubs of Marlborough (adjacent to the Convention Centre) Foyer is a riot of colour. A huge thank you to all who took part.
Chris and Jan enjoying the challenge.
Ben advises his mother Katie

‘Whenua (The Land)’
Patricia Took-Stevens
Each part of this work is in some way connected to the land.
The box is very old, but once was part of a tree.
The flax is native to New Zealand.
The badly damaged reclaimed books and their beautiful hidden images were once part of a tree.
The sheep, producing merino wool, are connected to the land, as are the stones and shells also used to embellish the front book covers,
Finally, I would like to give credit to the authors of the three found books. The books and their images are entirely about New Zealand plants, birds and the land.
Native Birds – written and illustrated by Charles Masefield 1952
Natives for your Garden – written and illustrated by G C Jackson 1965
Charles Heaphy’s prints -- compiled by Briar Gordon and Peter Stupples 1987

‘Tuatara Wisdom’
Donna Hitchcox
This tapestry weaving wall hanging was designed specifically for the professional office of a Hypnotherapist and Rieki Energy Healer.
Depicting two Tuatara, which symbolise the ancient wisdom of New Zealand, encircling a Koru ball. The Tuatara are woven in the colours of South Canterbury braided riverbeds and the hazy colours of our distant mountains.
The Koru ball symbolises the balance of harmony, awakening and personal growth.
The patterns leading up and down from the Tuatara depict all our family trees, our Whanau that support us above and below.
The fibres have been hand-dyed to the colours of South Canterbury, McKenzie country. Hot summers, tussock with a hint of spring fresh growth, clear water systems and willow shade.
