Far North Award

Far North Award, sponsored by Te Wananga O Aotearoa for the most creative use of NZ design or materials
‘Tuatara Wisdom’
Donna Hitchcox

This tapestry weaving wall hanging was designed specifically for the professional office of a Hypnotherapist and Rieki Energy Healer.

Depicting two Tuatara, which symbolise the ancient wisdom of New Zealand, encircling a Koru ball. The Tuatara are woven in the colours of South Canterbury braided riverbeds and the hazy colours of our distant mountains.

The Koru ball symbolises the balance of harmony, awakening and personal growth.
The patterns leading up and down from the Tuatara depict all our family trees, our Whanau that support us above and below.

The fibres have been hand-dyed to the colours of South Canterbury, McKenzie country. Hot summers, tussock with a hint of spring fresh growth, clear water systems and willow shade.
